Specialty Coffee, Small-Batch Roasted in Metro Detroit
Specialty coffee is a standard, not a style. To qualify as specialty grade, coffee must score 80 points or above on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point scale. That score reflects cup quality, origin traceability, and processing integrity. It's a meaningful bar, and it's the floor we start from at ARDITO.
Every coffee we roast is sourced from traceable, high-altitude farms, roasted in small batches, and independently tested for purity before it ships.
What Makes Coffee Specialty Grade
Specialty coffee starts at the farm. High-altitude growing conditions slow cherry maturation, allowing sugars and acids to develop more fully. Careful harvesting, processing, and drying preserve those characteristics through to the roaster.
By the time a specialty lot reaches us, it has already passed through multiple quality checkpoints. Our job is to roast it in a way that honors the work that went into producing it, bringing out the natural flavors without masking them with excessive heat or inconsistent technique.
The ARDITO Specialty Coffee Lineup
We roast a focused lineup of specialty blends and single-origin coffees, each built around a specific flavor profile and brewing application.
- Riserva Originale, a balanced medium roast with chocolate, caramel, and subtle fruit. A reliable daily drinker across all brew methods.
- Riserva Nero, a bold dark roast espresso blend with dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted almond.
- Essenza, a light-medium roast with honey, citrus, and floral notes. Built for pour-over and filter brewing.
- Riserva Velocità, a dark roast engineered for espresso and milk-based drinks.
- Monorigine, a Grade 1 Ethiopian Yirgacheffe single-origin with apricot, honey, lemon, and a silky tea-like body.
Specialty Coffee and Purity
Specialty grade addresses cup quality. It does not address contamination. Coffee can score above 80 points and still contain mycotoxins or mold from improper processing or storage.
At ARDITO, we only source from trusted importers who test for mycotoxins, mold, yeast, and heavy metals. Specialty grade is the starting point. Clean coffee is the standard. Learn more on our mold-free coffee page.
